Rain is the word of the day here in the greater Manhattan area. It’s not what I’d qualify as a torrential downpour. More of a slow and steady stream of consistently saturating rain. Either way it means the streets of Hoboken, NJ will be flooded in approximately an hour or less. I’ll be amazed if this town ever gets its shit together.

Anyways, I won’t let a little H2O get ME down. And thanks to my fellow DJ – Sheena Beaston – I was thinking of songs about the rain and came up with a couple of classics in, well, My Private Collection (of songs I love anyway). So here are two for you today, below. I may add to this post if I think of more, and feel free to add any that you like in the comments.

Maybe I’ve mentioned this before on here and maybe I haven’t. But due to some questionable judgment on my part, I go to law school. And recently, I finished my fourth semester.

So for the past two weeks or so, I’ve been watching as my grades have rolled in. One by one. Anxiety being relieved with each new development, thankfully.

Now, there’s just one left. And today’s the last day for professors to get their grades in.

So at some point today, in theory, I ought to know once and for all, how I did this semester.

How do I feel about this?

God, it’s hard to believe that Goldfinger’s Hang Ups came out all the way back in 1997. I mean, as it is, I can barely remember what the hell I was doing in ’97 besides getting zits, wearing Metallica T-Shirts and being really short. I think I was in 10th grade but who really cares.

Anyways, Hang Ups was and still is easily my favorite Goldfinger album. It’s one of those albums that I can listen to every song and love them all – a distinction that cannot be made for too many others.

Most people probably remember the song, “Superman” because it was either in some movie or they just happened to listen to alternative radio and it was played just about once an hour. But there were plenty of other great songs on there if you happen to like the poppy punk/ska brand of music for which Goldfinger was famous.

Two of those are below.

For some reason, when I was listening to this Kings of Leon track (“Sex on Fire”), it reminded me of this song from Albert Hammond, Jr. of The Strokes fame.

Awkward Musician Dropping the F Bomb of the Day…

I actually really enjoyed this Metallica medley by Sum 41.

Apparently it’s their new thing or something.

Which, you know, I guess I understand.

I mean Metallica is a badass band. So why not pay tribute to them when playing live?

Of course, as a band that hasn’t really done shit since like 2003, I would think that Sum 41 might be more interested in playing, well, their own new and good music. But maybe they don’t even have any new and good music?

Who knows.

Either way, the bottom line is – Derrick Whibley dropping the f bomb on stage may be the most awkward thing since they gave Jimmy Fallon his own show. Yikes. I guess that’s what happens when you marry Avril Lavigne.

Sometimes I get irritated when good bands start to go really mainstream.

I don’t mean like musically, but rather just getting exposed to a wider, less discerning music consuming public.

Now, I can’t really claim to have listened to these characters for any substantial period of time or anything. But from what I’ve heard, they’ve been around and kicking ass for a hell of a lot longer than just a year or two. Still, they’re only now becoming everyone’s “hot” new band…and sadly for me, I think it might be because of this song.

Oh well, I still love it anyway.

And it seems to go well with the general ambiance of today.

So here you go…
